| Austria - Saalfelden, Zell Am See, Kaprun, Leogang, Maria Alm, Salzburg, Vienna |
This is the country which I have visited more than ten times and always whish to come back and over again to come back and I don’t know how many times I have to repeat come back, never enough of come backs. Saalfelden – In the heart of Salzburg Mountains on the broad and sunny Saalach Valley lies down a small town Saalfelden. Surrounded with beautiful nature Saalfelden is excellent place for a relaxation. Small lake Ritzensee is favourite place for swimmers and fisherman. In the same region there is another beautiful place, Zell am See which is lakeside winter ski resort on a large lake – The Zeller See, great opportunity for trip on a leisurely boat across crystal clear lake. Lake is of course rich with different fish species: eel, carp, pike, trout, catfish, sly freshwater crabs, and many others. I have experienced fishing over there for several occasions and remember that I have been pleasantly surprised by the fact that I have caught three eels for a very short period of time during the night while on the middle of the lake has been a firework. When Zell am See is mentioned there is no chance to avoid mentioning Kaprun situated at the foot of Kitzsteinhorn. A special attraction for holidaymakers from all over the world is the glacier skiing grounds at a height of 2,900 meters above sea-level. Zell am See and Kaprun are win–win combination for Alpine tourism in the region. I would like to point out two more places in Pinzgauer region, Leogang and Maria Alm, surrounded by alpine meadows and magnificent mountains, these resorts are certainly worth to visit. I still have a dilemma whether Pinzgauer region is more beautiful, charming and romantic during summer or winter. Of course during the winter this is heaven for skiers, snowboarders, and other snow lovers but during the summer there are varieties of activities that can be done: kayaking-canoeing, fishing, gliding, parachuting, rafting, horseback riding, summer tobogganing, hunting, cycling, hiking, piloting, and many more. Salzburg Hohensalzburg Fortress is accessible on foot or by funicular railway. The largest fully-preserved fortress in central Europe dominates a city of Salzburg. Mirrabell Palace, Mirabell Gardens – Mirabellplatz as Austrians say for the palace is very colorful place for visit with so many different flowers mixed with depicting figures from Greek mythology, marble vases and Dwarf garden. The most famous citizen of Salzburg is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composer and one of the most famous and admired classical musicians who ever lived. His birthplace in Getreidegasse 9 is worth visiting. Vienna Austria’s wonderful capital Vienna spreads along both sides of the Danube River. When someone comes to Vienna for a first time perhaps the best thing to the first is to take a tour of the city to get oriented and to do that there are several options: on foot, in a Fiaker (a horse-drawn carriage), or take tram circling the Innere Stadt – the old city. According to most tourist guides, the pulse of the city can be found along Ringstrasse (Vienna’s main boulevard), which can be questionable nowadays, but no doubt that the Innere Stadt (the old city) is the heart. This is where the city’s main attractions are located, and since it is a pedestrian zone, it is also a great place to stroll. For an overview, climb the bell tower of the 137 meters high St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The cathedral, built in 1258, is easily identifiable by the zigzag pattern of its roof tiles. Between St. Stephen’s and the State Opera House is Karntnerstrasse, Vienna’s main shopping street. At another corner of the old city is the Hofburg Palace, a massive complex that contains the Burgkapelle (the chapel where the Boys Choir sings Mass), the Stallburg (where the Spanish Riding School performs on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings), the Imperial Treasuries (Habsburg Crown Jewels), and Austrian National Library. Other places worth visiting along the way are: University, Rathaus (The City Hall), Parliament, Museums, Stadpark (City Park), and many more. Across the river from the old city is Prater Park, an enjoyable amusement park that dates from the 18th century. The park’s main attraction is the Riesenrad, the giant Ferris wheel. On the other side of the old city near the Sudbahnhof is the Belvedere Palace, which houses a stunning collection of Viennese art from the art-nouveau era. The palace also has a spacious garden with a great view of the city. Another enjoyable museum is the quirky KunstHaus Wien designed by the artist Hundertwasser. The museum is a fantasy of colorful and lumpy tile floors and peculiar architecture (trees grow out of the third floor window). Just down the street is a block of apartments that was also designed by the artist. The homes of famous Viennese are for some enjoyable sights: Sigmund Freud, Johann Strauss Jr., Beethoven, and Mozart. 17th-century Schönbrunn Palace, which was the Habsburg summer home, it is often crowded with sightseers but it is nonetheless a must-see. Highlights include the State Rooms, the Hall of Mirrors, the magnificent Wagenburg Imperial Coach collection, the enormous gardens, and the Tiergarten (Europe’s oldest zoo). |
