Poland - Lublin, Warsaw visited in 1996
I have spent wonderful seven days (26 October – 2 November 1996) in Lublin, maybe someone read "The Magician of Lublin" or "The Slave" by Isaac Bashevis Singer – Nobel laureate where Lublin is described, as a participant of International Esperanto Seminar “Youth Without Borders-Working for International Understanding” with esperantists from more than fifteen mainly Europe countries. Although we spent a lot of time on seminar programme we had some free time for city tour, visit to local University, to see the Catholic holiday of All Saints and the tradition of lighting the candles and visit the graves of deceased relative on a local cemetery, and visit to nearby concentration camp Majdanek from World War II. The camp was going to be the source of a free workforce for the realization of the plans to build a German empire in the east. Visit to the barracks full with Majdanek’s victims’ shoes, crematorium, reconstructed interior with bunk beds and many other reminders of this tragic part of history struck me the most.

We have spent one whole day in Poland’s capital Warsaw visited The Old Town with its notable landmarks Royal Castle, King Zigmunt’s Column, and Market Square, Chopin’s Parlour which is a part of the apartment where Chopin had lived. Palace of Culture and Science a Soc-realistic skyscraper located exactly in city centre and first thing to see when one goes out from railway station, and looks like Lomonosov Moscow State University.
