Switzerland - La Chaux-de-Fonds, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Neuchatel visited in 1997

One of the most beautiful countries and definitely most organized that I have ever visited. I have been in Switzerland (4th – 11th of October 1997) as participant of International Esperanto Seminar with major theme “Education for Peace” in La Chaux de Fonds situated in western part of Switzerland. I have remembered that this trip was the first time that I have utilized eurodomino train tickets, basic rule is that one can write a date when departures and is allowed to travel as much as can within 24 hours, and when I arrived to Zurich and caught a train to Geneva I noticed that at the beginning passengers spoke German language and for just a small number stations I could hear a few passengers spoke in vivid Italian language and shortly after, all the way to Geneva dominantly French spoken passengers. This was a great example of country with rich diversity and combined life of different communities. Switzerland is a small but well known country in the heart of Europe. Although I have been only once in Switzerland and only for a very short and limited time I am very happy that I had opportunity to visit many beautiful cities such as: Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchatel, and La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Geneva is characterised by its international population. It is often to see mixed couples or hear some strange languages that people are chatting to each other. This lakeside city with its famous water jet in the lake and lots of pedestrians, cyclists, rollers, skateboarders, couples in love on its banks is a heartbeat of Geneva afternoons.
La Chaux-de-Fonds is situated in heart of Watch Valley and it is considered as world birthplace of watch making industry. At the end of our Seminar our wonderful hosts took us to a hitchhiking trip to the river The Doubs where we enjoyed in natural beauty of fantastic Alpine sceneries and boat trip on a river.
Zurichis located at the end of lake with same name on the both sides of river Limmat and it is the largest city in Switzerland.
Lausanne is situated right on the lakeside with slopes of surrounding hills made of terraced vineyards and clearly visible Alps across the lake. The mediaeval town centre is a maze of alleys packed with boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
Neuchatel is located on the largest lake that is entirely Swiss. For a couple of hours between catching a connection train to Zurich I have had a privilege to stroll on a lake banks and enjoy a fresh and calm atmosphere of the surrounding.
