Tukrey - Alanya, Side, Perge, Aspendos, Duden and Kursunlu Waterfalls visited in 2005

Situated on the Anatolian peninsula has been the cradle for a number of civilisations throughout history. This was an important crossroad in the region which linked three continents known as the “Old World”.

Alanya
The symbol of the town is the prominent octagonal or “Red Tower” (Kizil Kule), built in 1255 is so-called because of its red-coloured bricks; it stands 33m high and is 29m in diameter. It was erected by Sultan Aleaddin Keykubad and is key point of the city walls and the defence system. South of the Red Tower, a covered shipyard or “Tersane” was constructed by the same Sultan.
Today Alanya is very popular resort with both local people and visitors to the country. The maze of narrow streets in the old part of city is full of bars, cafes, restaurants and exciting shops selling everything dear to holidaymaker’s heart, and will keep you entertained and busy.

Duden waterfalls
On a hot summer day, this watery beauty spot on the outskirts of Antalya provides a cool oasis of waterfalls and pools on the course of the river Duden. Rocky terraces and paths lead you behind the falls and next to the river, under leafy trees and plants, the Duden river reaches the sea, where it drips over the rocky cliffs to the sea bellow in spectacular waterfalls.

Kursunlu waterfalls
It is another example of a riverside beauty spot. The river drops in spectacular waterfalls onto lower ground as it rushes on its way to the sea, and at Kursunlu, complex of canals, waterfalls, and pools complete with ducks, invites you to stroll along narrow paths leading through leafy glades on the riverbanks, which is very refreshing on a hot summer day.

Side
It is an ancient settlement dating back to 1000 BC, was a small fishing village until the early 1980s. Today, it is one of the most charming resorts on the southern coast of Turkey. The impressive ancient theatre is the only one in Turkey which is not built into a hillside. Side was Pamphylia’s main harbour and largest port; it stands on a peninsula with a harbour on both sides. Remains which can be seen are: City Walls and Gates, Agora, Theatre, Temples, Baths, Vespasian Archway and Monument, and many more.

Perge and Aspendos
Perge is believed to have been founded, like Aspendos, by some of the Achaeans after their victory in the Trojan War, in approximately 1000 BC, when they came down afterwards to this part of Anatolia. Remains of Theatre, Stadium, City Walls and Gates, Hellenistic Gates, Baths, Agora, Columned Street and many other remains can be seen.
